Vacuuming made easier
I have cats and I love this vacuum! It's not too heavy and really sucks! (As in suction.) The attachments are useful and easy to switch out when you need to clean base boards or corners. I also use the smaller rotating brush to get hair off the sofa. (Much better than a tape roller.) The power cord is so long that I don't have to unplug it to go into a nearby room. The Dysolv and Abzorb cleaning products that it ships with also works wonders. My only concern is the plastic its made from can crack with enough force, but not with normal use.

Used a Dyson for 6 years
Dyson has the best products on the market. I have 5 dogs living in my home. One is a golden retriever. My Dyson has saved my carpet. I use it everyday..no joke. I have had it for 6 years(got it when Dyson first came out). When I replace it I will get another Dyson!! Don't listen to people who say anything bad.I should know a thing or two about Dyson. Also if you happen to have any questions or need anything the people at Dyson are so awesome and helpful. It's a great company.

Great while it works.
Sure the attachments are great, the dumping wasn't terrible (though it was messy), but for the price I expect this machine to last longeer. Our motor died right out of warrenty, and to fix the machine was almost as much as buying a new vaccum. I wish for the price it was better made, since we also had issues with the plastic. Overall I think we are much happier with our Oreck, even if it isn't as slick and pretty.

The Vacuum works as advertised, but could stand....
The Vacuum works well and as advertised.
Needed improvements:
1) The plastic-wrapped cord with a mind of its own. Most vacs in this price range have a rubberized cord that
does not have a memory. It makes winding and unwinding much less frustrating. Like the Oreck XL-21.
2) The top cord retainer is flimsy and may not last. And since the cord is so light you have to stoop over
to make sure it goes thru the bottom retainer. Like the Oreck XL-21.
3) No light!
4) A low-speed for vacuuming light-weight rugs by doors and such. Like the Oreck XL-21.
Too bad you can't take the best features of the Oreck XL-21 and the DC17 - it would be the perfect vacuum.

Can suck the chrome off a '57 Chevy
Been using my DC17 for a few months now, and I have so say it actually makes vacuuming fun. The suction has got to be about twice what my previous Eureka could manage.
At first, switching back and forth to floor mode and using the telescoping tool seems a bit cumbersome, but it gets easier with practice. It comes with quite a few tools, but unfortunately only three of them dock onboard--you have to store the others somewhere.
One of the most clever features of this vacuum is that the (powerful) rotating brush automatically shuts down when the handle is in the upright position and there's also a manual override button that lets you switch off the brush when vacuuming hardwood and tile floors.
Who would ever think that a company would come along and make a vacuum cleaner "cool"??

Get the power of an upright in a lightweight and versatile vacuum! The Optima Lightweight Upright features the exclusive Power Paw¿ with Riser Visor® to efficiently clean stairs and upholstery. The comfort grip looped handle has 13 adjustable positions for a sure and comfortable grip. You'll enjoy cleaner indoor air with the HEPA filtration system that captures over 99.9% of dust and allergens.
Amazon.com Review:
Eliminating the need for two separate vacuums--one for thorough cleaning and one for quick-and-easy touchups--the Eureka Optima has all the power, features, and performance of a conventional upright coupled with the light weight and convenience of a stick. Where the Optima doesn't cut corners is suction: at just under 12 pounds, this machine can out-draw units twice its weight, and its HEPA filter captures more than 99.9% of dust mites, pollen, and other allergens for cleaner indoor air. Its 12-amp dual- motor system devotes one motor to suction and another to turning the rotating brushroll, which can be switched all the way off for gentle cleaning of hardwoods and other delicate surfaces. The unit's bagless construction eliminates the hassle and expense of disposable vacuum cleaner bags, and its comfort-grip looped handle has 13 different adjustable positions customizable to all users in the family, from the shortest to the tallest.
Surprisingly versatile for such an inexpensive machine, the Optima also comes with a decent selection of onboard tools, including a dusting brush and crevice wand as well as Eureka's unique Power Paw. This handheld attachment features a powerful brushroll to remove ground-in dirt and pet hair; its "Riser Visor" shield flips up and down to convert from vertical to horizontal cleaning on surfaces from stairs to upholstery. Suction control allows users to direct power from the floor nozzle to the hose, resulting in a stronger, dedicated airflow in both modes. The Optima isn't perfect: it's a tad loud and the filter does need cleaning, but it represents a unique blend of power, ergonomics, and ease of use at a reasonable price point. And while the unit is rather narrow, its excellent maneuverability and small footprint when stored more than make up for the reduced cleaning path. The Optima comes fully assembled; it measures 13 inches wide by 15 inches long and stands 44-1/2 inches tall and is backed by a one-year parts-and-labor warranty. --Mary Park

- Includes stretch hose, dusting brush, crevice wand, and power paw attachment for cleaning stairs, upholstery, and vertical surfaces
- 12-Amp motor; rotating motorized brushroll cleans rugs, then switches off to gently vacuum hardwoods
- Hepa filter captures more than 99.9-percent of dust mites, pollen, ragweed, and other allergens
- Lightweight and versatile bagless vacuum combines the performance of an upright with the convenience of a stick

Great little machine. Bang for the buck...
Our Eureka Upright 431BX Vacuum was broken after 4 years maximize of use and we bought this guy following reviews on Amazon for replacement. It's technically the same machine but this little guy a bit smaller, a bit lighter and more functional. It's pretty easy maneuver, much less noise compare with our current model. And smart idea this one has an additional rotate brush, which is very helpful to clean stair or corner.
Over all, I'm happy with my new vac performances and cannot ask for more. Especially with Amazon pricing plus free shipping you just can't go wrong! Thanks to the reviews was very helpful anytime I have to buy something. I have not yet disappointed once when shopping here.

Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful!
I am so very pleased with this vacuum. It is light-weight, and does just about everything! The attachments are great! I love the way the hose attachment has a spinning brush as well!
You can actually see the brush lines in the carpet. You know for sure that it is kicking up the dirt to be collected. I foster dogs, and the vacuum has been fabulous at picking up pet hair!
The floor option is great! No more sweeping! It's nice because you can change it to a suck-only option so it doesn't blow the dirt everywhere as a regular vacuum would.
All in all, the best vacuum I have ever used - and, the price is unbelievable, on Amazon.

Works like a charm!
I purchased this mainly to vacuum up kitty litter that my cat tosses everywhere. It vacuumed up the large kitty litter particles with a single swipe so I am very pleased. When emptying the vacuum bucket, I was shocked...there was a good 2 inches of dust in there as well! I hadn't realized how dirty these floors were until I vacuumed them! The dust was super fine which demonstrates the relative suction power of the vacuum.
Besides its function, the vacuum cleaner is light as advertised. The dust bucket comes on and off very easily which reduces the likelihood that you'll end up dumping its contents all over the place. The adjustable handle is quite nice too.
Overall, this vacuum does as advertised and I'd recommend it to anyone. I haven't had it for a long time, so I can't discuss the longevity of the vacuum, but I had a similar vacuum from Eureka previous to this one, and it survived well.

My Search is Over!
My 2nd Oreck bit the dust so to speak. The only thing that impressed me about it was the light weight. After reading the reviews on the Eureka Optima I made the purchase. Assembly took about 3 minutes. This thing sucks like crazy! I have carpet and hardwood and this machine has settings for both which is great. For bare floors you can turn off the beater bar and it picks up everything without shooting it all over the place. In ONE PASS it even picked up all the cat kibble my messy boy cat spreads around. Slightly heavier than my Oreck but worth it because it has the onboard tools which are easy to use and everything actually stays put on the machine while you dash around vacuuming. The power paw is a fantastic thing for stairs and pet hair, crumbs etc. on furniture. So far I am very pleased and feel like my search is over for now. As other reviews have stated the dirt needs to be emptied each time but I actually see that as a good thing because it will keep the machine in better working order. Besides, because you can see how much dirt you just collected, you actually WANT to get rid of it right away. If price, weight and versatility are key for you than this is the machine to get. With Amazon purchase, free shipping, no tax, quick delivery = no brainer.

Great lightweight vac!!!
Ever since my roommate took his green version of this vacuum when we left our apartment I have always been searching for it. I bought a Dirt Devil bagless upright and immediately missed this vac! The Dirt Devil was very heavy and tiring to switch from the floor suction to the tube suction. They don't sell this Eureka model at Costco for bucks anymore so I bought this one instead. I love this vacuum so much I am willing to spend the extra 30 bucks! It's just that great. The one I got was the 437az HEPA filter model with the power pet paw. This thing is so lightweight and easy to maneuver that it's actually fun to vacuum. Here's the jist of why I like it:
PROS:
1) lightweight and easy to store in a small space
2) easy easy easy to switch from floor suction to hose suction
3) very powerful suction that's not too noisy (even my girlfriend thinks its quiet for the power)
4) great on carpet AND hardwood floor
5) looks and feels very well made (not plasticy like my Dirt Devil)
6) good for pet hair
CONS
1) placement of air flow out of the vacuum; it's located right in front of the vacuum pointing downward so it will blow things away before you can suck them up
-EASY FIX; just cut out a piece of light cardboard like a 3in by 7in piece of cereal box. Then tape it to the bottom of the exhaust up to the sides of the upper portion of the exhaust. Problem solved! Now this vacuum is perfect because the air flows forward and upward!
If you are looking for a good lightweight vacuum this is the best!

Cleans better than a professional service.
I live in an urban basement apartment with large windows facing the street. In addition there are four cats (hairballs). I used to have one of those shop vacuum types with the long hose that hooks to the tap and was a giant pain to use with very poor performance. This machine is phenomenal. It is very easy to use and clean. Storage is easy with a 19"x12" footprint. It pays for itself with one use and because of the dirt coming in from the street I have to use it once a month. It's been about a year and it works just like new. I highly recommend it and would buy it again in a second.

Breaks after 3 uses
I bought this product just a little over 1 year ago. The warranty is now void. I went to use it again before xmas and it would not spray. I took the whole thing apart and put it back together. No water comes out. I had my husband take at it and he said the pump was not working. Obviously I need to get it repaired. I only used it 3 times and so at 0 that cost me a cleaning. That was just for my living room floor. Now either I have to pay to get it repaired or just rent the professional cleaners. While it was working, it did a decent job. The only issue I had was getting all the excess pet hair out of the machine as it clogs everywhere. I even vacuumed first, so it picks up hair you don't remove with the vacuum. You would think since it says "PET" it would enable you to clean out the pet hair easier.I am so mad I will never buy another Bissell product. I think all the good reviews you read are those who have not used it several times! It doesn't last!!!!!

Better than a Hiring a Professional
I am on my second Bissell Proheat 2X. The first one, I bought four years ago and used it constantly. I have twin tots and two dogs, I feel I got my money out of the first machine. The reason I bought a second machine is that the hand held attachment on the first broke and I got a GREAT deal on the newer model. The new one also came with a myriad of attachments the old one didn't have (the seller for me being the crevice tool). It also came with two big bottles of cleaner.
Yesterday, I used it on my stairs and the entire upstairs. We have a light colored shag carpeting. I was astounded at what the machine picked up yesterday--when I emptied the water from cleaning the stairs, it was near black. The rug hadn't even looked dirty. I did the entire upstairs and used the crevice tool to get under the wood trim on the floor. The upstairs looks and smells as fresh as when the carpets were new. I highly recommend this product. I took one star off because there is no automatic indictor as to when you need to add more water. It was pretty much by trial and error for me. Otherwise, this machine is excellent. It heats the water to a very hot point and has great suction to grab the dirty water back up. The cord is very long, I was able to do every room upstairs without moving the cord to different outlets.
I also recommend that people shop around--you can get this machine for 0 at some stores. It's better than hiring a professional and you know 'where it's been'--I always wonder about the professional companies! Did they clean up a crime scene with their machine? Yuck. I also hate having strangers in my home. It does a great job and for what you pay for someone (nd not deal with all of the haggling), you could own this great product to use for years. Don't be put off by the fact I broke my attachment--I can be very destructive with vacuums etc!!

Bissell Does not hold up in the long run
When I purchased this product 2 years ago, I thought "Wow" great deal. I found it easy to use, easy to clean, affordable and cleans well. The first day I cleaned three rooms put it away for 6 months....then cleaned one room and....another 6 months later began to shampoe carpet and 5 minutes it would not spray! I checked everything out...the belt, etc. My husband looked it over...nothing. I took the whole bottom apart and cleaned everything thoroughly. I was making sure nothing was wrong. Tried it again...nothing, just suction. Went to the Bissell website and the frequently asked question section about Spraying issues. I went over the section with my husband and could not problem solve. My husband was certain was electrical. I called Bissell, the nearest 5 Bissell Repair stores were 5 hours away and I would have to pay for repair. I talked to a customer Representative. She said there is nothing she can do. There is only a 1 year warranty on the product. So did I come out ahead? I cleaned 4 rooms for aprox 0.00. Since the Bissell didn't work this time I rented a commercial cleaner for .00 for 4 hours. I could have shampoed the 4 carpets for 0.00. That said, I wouldn't advise anyone to buy. The item would be a great product if it held up and if it had a better warranty, but as you can see I threw my money away. I will not buy another Bissell again if I can help it.

Well Worth The Money
First, let me say I owned a Hoover cleaner before this one. I'm saying that because it gets good reviews, but it leaked, the cheap plastic parts that hold the tank broke, but with effort, it did an "adequate" job.
The Bissell is a major step forward. With a separate tank for the cleaning solution, you can now adjust the amount of cleaner that flows into the water, or completely turn off the solution to rinse with clear water. The brushes are MUCH better than the Hoover's. Some commented that this model leaked - I didn't have that problem. The carpets have never looked better and I'm sure the heated water helped in this regard. They're not only clean, but plush once again. The attachments are also better with an included "Turbo Brush" for stairs and hard to reach areas with a motorized brush.
Some commented on all the clumps left behind. I have a dog and a cat so you can imagine the hair it pulled out - this after vacuuming thoroughly. I saw this as a plus, not a negative as it obviously got out the deep down hair the vacuum missed, but the cleaner picked up those clumps so not a worry.
All in all I have nothing to complain about. This machine is a little more money, but definitely worth it.

Bissell 2080 Deep Cleaner
Great for small areas, though, I have used it to clean an entire house. Best for a small room but if you don't mind changing the tank a couple times fine for standard rooms. It will easily pick up more dirt than a vaccum and with the cleaning fluid it leaves the room smelling a lot better than any vaccum. The price is good and it has lasted me over five years.

Bissell
This is a very nice little machine. Easy to use, lightweight, well-made. I am very pleased with the results so far.

Talk about Deep Cleaning !
For this Lightweight Carpet Cleaner completely grossed me out....which means, it is serious about deep cleaning!
Easy to put together, most work involved a screwdriver & 3 screws. The carpet I used to put this Carpet Cleaner to the test has been abused by teenagers & toddlers for 5 years. Pee, poo, throw up, soda, food/ice cream, the list goes on & on. Yes, it was a bit involved as far as changing out the dirty water, and cleaning underneath the brush roller (a little disgusting). BUT for the price & for the results after going over the carpet only once...I don't mind the work involved.
I highly recommend this if you are on a budget, don't mind getting your hands dirty, & want results!! I love it!!

Great cleaner for ease of use
This is the first carpet cleaner I've bought and I am extremely happy with it. For the price range and what it is supposed to do, it works flawlessly. It is not a professional cleaner and I don't expect it to clean like one. That being said, it does a very nice job cleaning -- easy to use, easy to clean up, cleans very well, and dries quickly. Great little machine
I've never owned a carpet cleaner before, but since having 2 children (19 months and 32 months) decided one was a must, package arrived yesterday, put it together today in about 5 minutes (3 screws, all you need is a phillips head screwdriver) Came with a bottle of cleaning fluid. used it this afternoon to clean our 8'x5' living room area rug, which I had held off on hand scrubbing the past week because I wanted to see how powerful this machine was. I'm am soooo impressed! First off, my kids have had a stomach bug and have spit up a few times on the rug, which I spot cleaned, but could still smell, they had bananas this morning, which were all over the rug, along with spilled milk, and week old ground in dried on pizza sauce and cheese. I did not pretreat the heavily dirty spots before use like the instructions said (because I forgot to buy the particular cleaner required for it) and am very pleased to say that inspite of that the machine got up EVERYTHING except the pizza cheese. It took only 1/2 a tank (about a quart) of water and about 20 minutes to do. Other than the remaining cheese the rug looks brand new again, and doesn't stink anymore! Another great thing, the tanks are easy to remove and replace without spilling.
